Hey there. Been having a recent issue with my outboard evinrude. Hopefully someone can give some knowledge or experience. Engine has been running fine prior to issue. Recently was out and noticed my RPM gauge intermittently working. Then went to try and give the boat full throttle and only got to 3k RPM with throttle lever all the way down, as if a cylinder was out. When I got the boat back. I checked the following,

-spark plugs
-compresssion
-spark

I took it to a local shop and replaced the voltage regulator because it was reading low when running. Thought that would fix it but it didn’t. Same thing was happening when I took it out today. Full throttle at about 3500 rpm.

Can anyone suggest what to try to test next ?

Thanks much,

nick

What were the compression numbers?

How did you test spark? Did it jump 7/16" (11mm) whilst cranking (all plugs out).

SWAG: you're running on 3. Cylinder drop test or timing light on each plug whilst running will prove.

As interalian said, it sounds like one cylinder is not firing

Try disconnecting the tach at the motor. Could be pulling the power down.
