Hi all,

So a buddy and I bought an old fish/ski boat from a friend's dad. It's a 1989 Stratos 289FS in decent condition. We got it for $500 and are trying to fix it up to give up a more fun way to socially distance ourselves. It's got a 1989 Evinrude 150 XP V6 2-stroke (E150STLCEM).

Here's our issue: the motor gets no spark at all, unless we unplug the 'sensor kill' plug from the power pack. With this unplugged, the motor starts up and runs great. According to the CDI power pack troubleshooting guide, this means there is a problem with the kill circuit, and recommends checking the key switch, harness, and shift switch. We've checked the harness around the motor and it looks fine, the kill switch runs (differing voltages when pressed/not-pressed), and the neutral safety switch works fine. We can't find the problem anywhere.

To make it more confusing, I looked up the wiring diagram for the boat, and it is showing that the kill-switch is not wired the way it should be. On the diagram, the kill-switch runs through a diode, then to the same 'sensor kill' plug, but it's not connected to the black/yellow kill switch wires. It's connected to the 'tan' wire, which is supposed to have something to do with a temperature sensor. I've attached the diagram below for y'all to reference.

So my questions are:

(1) Why does the diagram seem to imply the existence of a second-kill switch? Is this an error or are we missing something?
(2) We wanted to just bypass the kill-switch, but when we plugged wire into the holes in the plug, it did not bypass. Is there another way to bypass this switch? This would be ideal, especially if the circuit issue is boat-side and inaccessible.

Sorry for the lengthy post, we are just anxious to get it running. Thank you all in advance. Click image for larger version Name:	Screen Shot 2020-04-05 at 8.29.09 PM.jpg Views:	2 Size:	156.7 KB ID:	10847601

That " cut off switch" switch is the vacuum switch not your kill switch...the blk/yell are the pack kill wires.

2) We wanted to just bypass the kill-switch, but when we plugged wire into the holes in the plug, it did not bypass. Is there another way to bypass this switch?

A kill switch does not have wires to plug into the plug ..that's the harness connector for tach and 12V.. Post a pic of you dash and controls
