Hi all, so bought a Mako over the summer that came with a 1989 Evinrude 200 on it for free. Was told it didn't run, but I eventually got it running only to do a compression test and find out 1 cylinder had low PSI. So I've debated fixing it or finding another motor and just replacing it.

Well the other day I found a Johnson 200hp for sale nearby and decided to go buy it today. Don't really know much about it. Was told it's possibly a late 70s early 80s model, and couldn't find a tag on it to verify. Also, supposedly the previous owner had it running 2 years ago but wasn't set up to do a compression test on it today. Figured for $150 I'd take the risk.

Now I was wondering what would be compatible with my 1989 Evinrude? Would I be able to swap Lower Units between the two, possibly swap powerhead if the Johnson works? Beleive the Johnson is a crossflow (has a flatback) and Evinrude is a looper (has the V6 on back)

Not much will interchange except lower unit and that might need driveshaft change due to length...

Alright thanks, know if the props would interchange? The Johnson didn't come with one but the Evinrude has one now

Pull the head on the 1989 with the low compression and see what it is. Maybe a bad head gasket ??

I've taken it off already. Turns out the reason previous owner must've taken in a lot of sand and shell because all the water lines were full of them. So engine overheated which I beleive caused a ring to fail on one piston, which broke apart and scored up the cylinder wall a bit
