1989 Evinrude 60HP Bogging out underload

My Outboard continues to bog out underload. I have rebuilt Carbs, rebuilt Fuel Pump, Checked compression. Went out this past weekend. Idle's fine start's fine. when engaged she only put's at an idle and bog's out and dies when throttle is open. When I put it in idle she rev's fine.....Any Advice.

Is this why you rebuilt the carbs in the first place, or did this problem occur after rebuild? Did you use new gaskets internally? Did you try assisting the fuel system by firming up the primer ball just before accelerating?

I had the same exact problem on a 1985 60 hp. I had rebuilt the carbs twice. I kept tracing the problem back to the fuel system though.
The third time I rebuilt the carbs I found a passage I had not got cleaned properly. I cant remember exactly which one it was though but as soon as I felt the air blow out the clog in the passage it was problem solved.

The Bogging was the initial problem, so began troubleshooting, Fuel lines, fuel pump, Carb's. woulb it have anything to do with the Primer Solenoid possible sticking open.

I doubt it. Idle would be the first to suffer from that.
Are you sure its hitting on both cylinders at idle?


Did you use new carb gaskets internally? Did you try assisting the fuel system by firming up the primer ball just before accelerating?

Did it again this weekend, bogging out after idle. Trimmed motor just under water and she powered up again. Always bog's under full trim/load. Squezzed the fuel primer ball also.

Rebuilt Carbs
New fuel lines
rebuilt Fuel pump
New Spark Pugs and Wires
Cleaned out fuel tank
Checked compression In/SPEC
Checked For Spark/sat

Still Idle's like a champ only when engaged underload bogging out still. What's left to troubleshoot at this point.

This is the last time I'll ask this.......did you use new gaskets when servicing carbs?

I'm having the same problem with my 89 140VRO. Replaced fuel pump and the problem started, cleaned carbs to no avail. If u find the problem would appreciate letting me know what it is.

when changing components in a fuel system, it is common to set debris free to float around and plug passages. You also run the risk of creating a restriction (kink) or air leak. but you should start your own thread.......

When I rebuilt carbs I used the repair kit and yes changed all the gaskets.
