Hello,

I am also having a overheat warning horn problem but what mine is doing is when I turn the key to run the horn sounds very, very, very, faint sounding can barely hear it. So I went to the motor and grounded out the tan wires and the horn does the same thing it is very very faint sounding and doesn't seem to want to sound but faintly, when I ground the tan wires out I also get a tap instead of the horn sounding and sometimes the horn sounds stops but never is loud very faint sounding. I own an Evinrude 88 SPL but I am trying to get help myself on my warning horn problem so I went to this side for help becuase I believe the warning horn is probably hooked up the same with different motors, I believe. CAn you guys help me out in troubleshooting it. Thanks, maybe we can help each other out with our warning horn problems

Most likely the horn is going south Bubba. You can test it by removing it from the control box and crossing the horn leads across a battery. Purple wire is the "+" side. If it don't sound off, replace.

Re: 1989 Evinrude E88MSLCER V-4 outboard warning horn

Hello to all of you,
I am back from Osan Korea. I got back home on the 8 March 2008 and it is so nice to be back home again. I was finally able to replace my overheat warning horn and by golly that was the problem. I bought a brand new warning horn off of Ebay for $14.00 with shipping about 4 months ago. It was easy a piece of cake to do. I turn the key and it beeps really loud now and I tested each sensor wire comming of the power head and it sounds a strong steady horn. It is fixed and will probably crank my motor over tommorrow if it is warmer to make sure I am not getting any overheats and make sure I put the remote control back together correctly which I am confident I did. I did run the throttle threw and no binding and I even tightened up the control arm because it has always been loose so I tightened up the allen screw and she is as good as new now. Thanks for all of your help I will let you know if I have any other issues concerning the warning horn if you don't hear back from me it is all good. Take care, Bob:)
