Yeah, about that. The rating method changed in the mid 80s and newer models were about 10-15% stronger compared to older models. But Force never adopted those changes. The rest of the manufacrturers did.

Thanks , I might be looking at a mint 1989 glastron cvx 16, but the guy is having a hard time selling the boat because of the type of motor.
Are they good motors ?

If they were good motors, then he wouldn't be having a hard time selling it.

You can buy it, but the price of the motor should be zero.
Pay for the boat and trailer, get the motor for free.

Those motors are cheap to buy, but expensive to fix, IF you can find a mechanic to work on it.

Although I have an 88 125, its sucked up some money, and while I hope to keep it running a long time, I wouldn't buy another..take a pass.
Great motors on junk boats OK, other way around no good..

I might just go for it ! Those boats (cvx /ccs 16) are getting to be a rare find and very rare to find a mint one !

They are good motors but not at par with other more expensive OB's since they were entry level priced motors. Nevertheless if the engine is as mint as the boat and is the same year ... then I guess it depends how much $ he wants for the whole kit. I had a 90 hp Chrysler than ran real good, and I can still see a few of them mounted on boats on the river I fish on. Remember that In Canada boat season is short thus they dont wear out as fast as in central and southern USA. I presently own a Force OB and our local Mercury dealer works on them and carries parts.
Basicaly you could take advante of the fact the is equiped with a Force motor and make an offer accordingly so the motor would turn out to cost you very little. (as per someone else's posting on this tread)

Good luck

CVX is a classy looking boat. Buy it and run it now. Upgrade power if you need to or want to later

I might just do that ! Im trying to sell my boat and swing a deal with this guy. He says it tops out at 50 mph !
Can a 125 force engine get to those types of speeds ? Im more interested in smooth cruising speeds and a motor thats good on fuel but getting to 50 mph would be a bonus !

50 on a 16 footer, quite likely. My Force 90 on an 18 footer will do 40 with just me and a couple of gallons of gas, lol. At a nice cruising speed, that motor could last you a long time!

Thanks guys ! If i buy the boat i will post some pics of it ! Hey pecheux i see you live not too far from me, What river do you fish in ? Riviere des miles iles ? If you are looking for a bigger boat i have a 1982 glastron open deck in mint shape 16 1/2 feet with trailer and a 1986 150 hp merc that i would like to sell. I had a Glastron Gt 150 that was in the familly for over 26 years and i miss her thats why the cvx would be a good replacement.

Tx for the offer ... but I sold my 21 footer to get a small boat that I can use in 2 feet of water and get back on the trailer without breaking my back ... lol

I once owned a boat Glastron like yours ... and It is a nice compromise to please the wife and kids ... and fishing. LOL

Enjoy your new ride ...

I had a v143 0r 146 --I forget the number--tri hull. with a Chrysler 55 on it. Classy little number. Rolled and tucked upholstery, including the stripe on the deck, custom canvas, trim railings. Real chick magnet. Sorry I got rid of it. Got a V 153 new in '71 and still have it. Powered by --what else?--Chrysler 90.
