Hi, Finally managed to get my 50 running on both cylinders. I had a bad trigger, however I can no longer get the motor to turn off the key (it was working fine then just stopped working) is it a bad ignition switch or possibly starter solenoid? Any help / advice much appreciated.

Ignition switch.

The starter solenoid is only used when you are actually starting/cranking the engine.

Hi and thanks for the response, I can hot wire it by shorting the solenoid but the ignition switch has to be in the run position. Is there anything in the elec circuit that would cause this fault - a circuit breaker or temp limiter or something else. Also noticed that the solenoid that chokes the motor if trying to start it in gear is not functioning now.

If you have a VOM- voltage-ohm meter- and can get to the back of the switch, simply check continuity between the two "M" terminals. They should be open, with infinite resistance when in the run position and closed with no resistance in the stop position. If not, the switch is bad and should be replaced. You can stop the engine by jumping white to blue on the engine terminal or if the colors are different, "STOP" to ground.

If the choke solenoid is not working and the start position on the switch is also not working, there is an excellent chance that the switch is bad. Check there functions to see id there is 12 volts at the switch terminals when the key is pushed (choke, "C" terminal and turned to start "S" terminal.

Thanks for the reply, just had a look and the breaker had tripped, reset it and we're good to go :)
