hi, I am looking at a small bassboat that has an '89 force outboard. the owner says it has around 100 hours and is used every year for a few fishing trips, so it hasn't sat unused(his story). are these engines reliable? I know outboards are complex mechanical devices and I have had at least one powerhead go bad previously(suzuki 30hp). I really hate to have to repair something all the time.
any opinions?

The Force motors have 2 problems.
They have earned a reputation for poor
performance and reliability.
Add that to no factory parts support and
you have to consider long and hard.
Parts to be sure are still available though
some can be hard to find and expensive.
Some have had fine expierence with Force motors.
My expierence is very limited but I was comepletely unimpressed both with their crude
performance and reliability.

thanks for your opinion. I should have added that it was a 50hp. I will probably go with a new boat. I promised myself I wouldn't buy another used motor after 2 bad experiences, both on fishing vacations. and both on the 1st day.

Bean210,

I have worked on outbaords for over 20 years and that motor is on my "Top 10 most hated list". As mentioned the company is no longer supporting the motor. Get away from it!!
