1989 Force 50hp ... Which is 'number one' cylinder?

... top or bottom?

I'm doing some ignition work on this motor and I need to make sure that the coil plug wires are connected to the proper cylinders

K, found it:

number one cylinder is the cylinder closest to the flywheel.

Yes, numbered from top down starting with #1.
