Hi, I had no spark on motor and just changed the stator and coils. Now started fine but the shifting is now not working. It is hard to shift and throttle up,and doesn't want to go into reverse. Would it be something to do with the trigger, or flywheel on to tight? Maybe a wire in the way as I did not mess with anything but the electrical. Does it matter the placement of stator? One other thing even before the electrical work- in neutral i did not have much throttle.
Thanks

no, too tight won't effect anything.
But too loose and you will shear the key.
Did you torque it to spec?

I would disconnect the shift and throttle cables at the engine.
Test to see that they move freely.
Inspect the cable sleeves for cracks or splits.

Then try to move throttle and shifter on the engine to make sure they move freely.

I just fixed an identical problem. It was the seal where the shift linkage goes into the lower unit. Was binding up the linkage. Had it on the water for the first time after replacing the seal and it shifts like a dream, now.
