1989 force 85hp. model a? b? l?

i have just acquired the above motor. as apparently usual, the sticker on the transom mount has completely faded to white. i was, however, able to find a small sticker attached to the top of the stbd side block. 856A9F. this makes sense as the model number. there is no available serial number. is there a visual way to find the series/configuration? a,b,l? want to get parts/service manuals. thx

The difference on a model change can be as small
as a screw or a tie/down.
Very few big changes in the models??
If you get a service manual for 88/98/90
you should be close.
The big changes were in the lower units.
