I have a 1989 Force outboard engine 50hp. I replaced the starter and now the engine turns over but will not start using the key switch, but if I pull start the engine it will start and run. I had a couple of wires came off during installation of the starter and not sure if I put them back where they go.can anybody help with maybe a wiring diagram or print. thank you. Some pix of those two wires would be helpful. If the motor is turning over slowly then you may need to charge your battery.

Is it firing when turning over with keyswitch? (disconnect kill wire then see if it will start with key switch).

Re: 1989 Force starting problems

I'm having the same problem, or very close to it. A few week ago this engine developed a bad miss and traced it to the "Top Plug", not firing. Later isolated the problem as a bad CDI Unit (Blue). Replaced the CDI unit and the engine ran perfect for about 5 minutes. Shut it off and attempted to restart when a terminal from the stator lead burnt off at the terminal board. Have not been able to start this engine since and have found 3 of the 4 leads from the stator broken off. Disconnected the Rectifier and it still does not start. Checking the Ignition switch next. Running out of things to check. Hope I didn't fry the new CDI unit. 200 bucks down the drain.......

Pix were invalid. The two wires may be your problem. Can you give color of the wires and where are they located on your motor?
