I have a gamefisher, circa 1989, which I believe was made by force based on an old chrysler version.
I am looking for electrical service help. I have a sears owners manual which depicts a magneto but no points or module - I am trying to troubleshoot what I think is an electrical problem. the symptoms are won't idle, no mid range, runs erraticaly at full power.
Cleaned carb, found little trash. Noticed broken stator ground wire - tried to clamp a replacement with no luck - will be making a replacement for more certain connection soon.

I run this thing on a small sailboat, it is a short shaft which works thanks to an articulating motor mount except in heavy water it bobs too much. The point of the sailboat comment is that the prop is designed to go a lot faster then the displacement hull will allow - hence I run at low speeds or the engine is under a lot of load.

Anyone have more info on this motor?

Hi Djunk121

Sure sounds much more like a fuel problem to mee. Are U sure you got every little orifice clean. Only cleaning trash in bowl up wont help much. Trash in bowl only tells you you probably have trash in small orifices too. Clean, remove adjustment screws and count turns, blow compressed air through. Better soak carb in cleaner solvent over night, but remove gaskets and floater first !! You might have to get a carb rebuild kit and do it over again. I assume is has a Tillitson carb on it ? Your motor will ne a decarb procedure too, due to all the low speed run and because these useally does - would help too. Have you checked if the spark can jump 1/4" - 3/4" gap when you pull the cord ? If they do, problem is probably in carb, or fuel pump, hose or tank pickup/vent screw.

I reconnected the stator ground & checked the spark - works good. Tested compression, got 120 on both cyl with 3 pulls (85 each on first pull).

I must confess that as a result of my on the water attempt to clean the carb, I put the float in upside down, resulting in a flooding continum. Anyway, today I corrected that eror & "it runs".

It does idle rough, I tried the advance & retard the idle screw until it barely runs & split the difference, which helped.

I still have 2 questions: 1) where is the thermostat? (I can rest my hand on the head indefinetly - water coming out up high is only luke warm, I have not checked the water coming out by the prop).
and 2) how does thing make spark? (The operators manual has a diagram showing the stator plate, a coil but no points or control module).

BTW, could you expound on the decarb process?

Hi Djunk
Since you didn't post the model# I really don't know. I did how ever do a little research and found that Force was still using magnito/point ignit. in this era on engines up to this size. So, my guess is your's is the same.

Hi djunk, Would be good to get a service manual.
A Force Manual will work. They are at the bottom of the page,or try amazon.com,ebay or NAPA auto
parts.Sometimes they have them at the library.Your motor uses A magneto ignition with points. The points should be set at .020.If the
motor starts and runs well they are probably ok.

Thanks for the reply. I was about to pull the flywheel but did not have a puller big enough.

I have always been a bit curious.

Anyone who has pulled a force/chrysler flywheel - would you please comment?

I guess I really do need to get a manual.
