Another force motor I have wont keep prime. New tank and primer bulb and hose connected to fuel pump inlet.I hate quick connects... I pump up bulb and it fires up, runs good for 20 seconds or so then shuts down. primer bulb has no pressure. I pump it up again and the same thing.:( Replaced the fuel pump diaphram and the same thing. Carb has been cleaned spotless, all hose clamps are snug, in-line filter has fuel. Motor runs strong and pumps good water. Cant understand why it keeps shutting down. Ive worked on a bunch of motors over the years and this one has me stumped!!! Any ideas? Thanx in advance for your replies..

Replaced primer bulb and it runs very high rpms then low then high then low then shuts down. Wow these force motors kick my butt. Its hard to get rid of free motors but never had these problems with evins/johnson or mariners. Hell even my air cooled motors are easier to work on. any ideas?

How about the fuel hose quick disconnect fitting a the motor, has that one been replaced? I've had to replace that a couple times on my 89 7.5HP. Pump up the primer hard and hold it, then see if any fuel is leaking from the quick disconnect fitting, it shouldn't.

You could also try running the OB while pumping the primer bulb, I've had to do that a couple times to get back to the dock...

Have you looked at the checkvalv in the fuelpump?
Inlet...blow yes, suck.....no.
Outlet....blow no, suck....yes.

Also check the carbflot. Should shut when the flot is parallel the bodycasting.

Re: 1989 gamefisher/force 9.9

it almost seems like the gas tank is not venting properly or clogged fuel pump... take apart the fuel pump on the motor. Clean everything with carb cleaner and reassemble and try that. Really simple to take apart and don't put down these motors if properly maintained their bulletproof. i have a 1991 force 9.9hp and the same thing occurred at the beginning of the season.
