What would be the best prop setup for this engine on a 1989 19 foot Sunbird Cuddy Cabin? SPL 194

Currently I have 2 props that came with it when I purchased the boat

1) 13 1/4 15in P - Out of the hole pretty quick
2) 13 1/4 17in P - Out of the hole a little slower same speed as the 15 WOT when planed out. I have a 13in 19P stainless steel prop that I have not tested but from what I have read a lower pitch = faster out of the hole and a higher pitch = slower out of the hole.

Whale tail installed, power trim.

WOT I push 5k RPM's and do up to 32mph planed out.

I think this boat will do much better but I am not sure what direction to go as far as another prop pitch setup. I run 50:1 with regular grade gas, should I be running premium?

The Johnson is timed correctly and has new plugs but if it idles to long it cuts off could this be because of the fuel quality?]

Is 50:1 16 OZ of oil to 6 gallons or 6 OZ's to 6 gallons?

Thanks for your help.

Re: 1989 Johnson 110HP O/B

Thanks for the input I have used seafoam in the past on my Jetta and Jeep I actually ran some through the Johnson last weekend. I made a ratio mistake last weekend because I used a measuring cup I had from my wave runner so I hope I did not harm the engine running 6oz to 6 gallons.

I posted in the prop forum and they pointed me here to see where my engine runs best @ wot as I said I am running at 5k RPM at 32 MPH planed out is that the most I could expect out of the 110? I have a friend with a 16 foot crestliner that does about 40 w/ a 1976 Evenrude 115hp motor with a 17in pitch prop I know it is a smaller boat and lighter but should I be getting close to this planed?

The 1976 115 is actually closer to a 90 HP compared to your 110.

The whale tail has no benefit at WOT and may slow you down. It will definitely drag you down on turns and manuevering.

You can usually increase pitch some when going from aluminum to stainless. Most of the real experts here believe you should prop the V4 crossflows to 5800 RPM at WOT.

Where is the anti-ventilation plate in relationship to the bottom of the transom? (even, above or below, and how much)

ahh ok so would my 89 actually be closer to a 110.

Good information did not realize this so there is really no benifit to the tail and if there is what is it? the previous owner installed it.

I have a 19p stainless steel 3 blade that I will test out this weekend.

I am a noob what is this? is it the 2 holes in the rear of the engine?

When should I have a concern when it comes to high RPM's? above 6K?

There was a change in the way HP was rated by OMC. Your 110 is 110 today.

I think you should try to get close as possible to 5800 RPM and no higher according to everything that I have read here and elsewhere.

The whale tale is connected to the anti-ventilation plate.

Wail Tail should help your plane. I just put one on and it makes a world of differnce on speed of plane. I would assume that is why the previous owner put it on. Your speed sounds pretty close but you could get your RPM's up and a few MPH.

I have the same motor as you WOT 5600 RPM's Trimmed at 36 MPH 18 FT Deck boat. I would guess your 19 FT is a bit heavier.
