1989 johnson 15 hp

i have a 15 hp and there is no kill switch so the guy that had it has it to where you throtle all the way down and it shuts of to start it i have to have the throtle about half way this is not right could he have moved the points under the fly wheel to make this do this?

An 89 15 hp should have a stop button, with safety lanyard, on the end if the tiller.
I may be wrong but I assume the stop switch assembly also incorporates the idle speed adjustment

#10 is the stop switch, # 14 is the lanyard

Best advice would be to fit what should be there or at least fit an aftermarket kill-switch and lanyard.

It is not a points ignition system.

Does the problem arise because the engine has been fitted with remote controls. If it has then a stop switch should have been part of the remote control adaptor kit or part of the remote control

the serial number on the block is 15RL75CE421588 were could i get a break down picture of the block and the way things are saposed to be under the flywheel. the guy i got it from had someone comletely screw him and do all kinds of jerry riging on the motor so i think he set thing the way they are not saposed to be there are alot of shaved down parts to make things work
