I am looking for help with a (self induced - most likely) fault with my gear shifter on my outboard:
I have just had the carbs off to clean the jets, and on putting it back together I stupidly nipped up the trunions for throttle and gear linkage behind the clamps (I.e. Both about an inch too far back and tightened on the cable - madness I know, I was running out of light...)
The result when I put it in the water to test it was the engine firing up with lots of throttle and then throwing into reverse.
A quick daylight inspection revealed my earlier stupidity and I correctly routed the trunions.
Now I can't select forward or reverse. I've removed the cable and tried operating manually and can just about get reverse but it is beyond the scope of the cable movement.
Have I trashed the dog clutch or is it possible that the misaligned trunion and force from the remote has grossly misaligned the shifter rod?
Any help much appreciated!!
