I bought a control lever (31) and the spring (32) that goes with it for my motor. I can't figure out how the spring attaches to anything to keep the lever from flipping too easily...now when I put it in reverse the motor comes flying out of the water!!

Can anyone easily explain it, or if someone has a similar motor could you post a picture of the lever and the spring? Thanks!!

There is a special pin that I can buy, but it's $17.00. I put a bolt in it instead. Does the pin do anything different than the bolt would?

yes it maked to break it a lower pressor an a bolt , it will help stop something bigger going wrong and less you money if you hit something in the water
