I recently bought a boat with a mariner mag II on back. Had her out twice and shes been great.Probably logged 10 hours on it since i bought it. I noticed in the garage tonight that the tab washer jiggles little bit side to side but not enough where the tabs are out of the slots. The nut seems to be very tight still. It is a nylon lock nut. Prop goes front and back maybe 1/4 inch and up and down maybe 1/16 of inch. I know before i took it out i spun prop by hand and that tab washer wasnt loose. Is this washer supposed to have little play as long as it still in slots? Does that play in prop sound ecsessive? Thanks guys

Re: 1989 mariner mag II prop question

The nut should be tight with no play anywhere; as in 50 ft lbs of torque.

Any movement of the prop on the shaft is excessive.

It sounds as though the rubber hub is shot. Hopefully, it's the replaceable type.

Thank you...any way to tell which kind it is? Or just take apart and see?
