I have a problem. The last time I had my boat out, I was running wide open, and after about 5 minutes, the engine started shutting down on its own, and ran extremely rough. I pulled back on the throttle, and tried to idle, but the whole boat and engine were shaking very bad. I tried to idle back to the boat ramp but the engine died. Today it will still turn over and fire, but it will not run. Does anyone have any ideas on what might have happened. The plugs look fine and no warning buzzers went off. I was hoping to get a clue before taking it to get fixed.

What is/was the condition of the plugs after you try to start her? Wet? Dry?

How was it running immediately before it quit? Did she rev up then die? Clogged/didty fuel system culd have had ti runninig too lean and,.......
Don't want to be the pessimist BUT,....Strongly suggest you perform a compression test.

Let us know what you find

Good Luck

The engine was running great. It did not rev up then go south, but was running right at 5600 rpm's then got real rough and slowed down. I did not check the plugs right after I tried to start it, but when I did try to start it, it turned over kinda slow, but it did fire some. I did not try it to much, I was afraid I might make whatever worse.

How do the plugs look? Can you confirm spark? Compression? Fuel is flowing?

I just went out and looked at the plugs, and they are black, but not burnt and not wet. It did try to fire, so I guess it is getting some fire and gas. A friend told me that maybe it was the power pack. I don't even know what or where that is. The last time I had it running the engine idled very rough, and shook the engine and boat very badly. I guess it is like a car when it is not firing on all cylinders, how the engine will shake.
