I looked at a 1989 Maxum 2000 cuddy cabin today that I am interested in buying. Mechanically it is sound. I am concerned about a spot on the floor that is appr 12" x 12" right on top of the gas tank. When you step on it, it caves in like you are stepping on a piece of thin sheet metal and when you step off it pops back up. It does not "feel" like it has a wooden layer above it. The rest of the floor seems solid. We had the boat up to 30 mph this morning and hit some good size wakes. I did not hear any unusual thunking or crashing noises. The owner stated the spot has always been there since he bought it 5 years ago and he has never checked it out but its never caused any problems. I checked in the engine compartment and the wood seemed dry and solid. Any advice you can give me would be appreciated as I am a novice when it comes to inspecting boats.
