I am interested in a used boat with this type of two stroke engine. The heads were replaced in 2003 due to overheating but since the owner says it has been running well.
It is winterized it every year by a marine service.
I am taking it for a compression test before purchasing it.

Anything else that I should look for?
Would you recommend it for a first time boat buyer?
Is their anything that I should be aware of?

Thanks - D

Check the carb throttle shafts for wear. They are prone to it. If they are, you need to repair them, post haste. If you don't, expect to pay for an engine rebuild. The worn shafts let air into the manifold, weakening the mixture and overheating the pistons. Then it's goodnight Gracie.

Chris...........
