I have a 1989 mercury 150 xr2 it started idling rough and Boggs when you push the throttle I just rebuilt the carbs and notice one of the reeds stuck open when I had my carbs off could the messed up reed be causing it to run rough this is my first boat so I don't know much

First off is an XR2 or XR4? Was thinkin' '88 was last year for that motor. Reeds that are gapped open will cause a rough idle ta answer your question. If you have a bent/gapped reed you need ta get it outta there. Something has caused this. Might just be weak/metal fatigue. Tha next thing is a "broken" metal reed that will pass through tha motor then a rough idle will be tha least of tha problem........

I put the wrong year it's a 88 xr2 and would that reed have anything to do with why it does run right at wot to it acts like it's only running on 5 cylinders

Usually a "gaped" open reed won't effect upper rpm. Was tha gap 20 thousands or more? Just one petal or is that tha only one ya noticed? Still needs ta be fixed. It won't ever idle right no mater what ya do with messed up reeds...........

The reeds on both the left and right on both bottom carbs are gapped out I order a new set of reeds. Someone told me that if both sides was gapped on the bottom two sets of reeds it would act like it was only runnin on 4 cylenders

All gapped open reeds will do is cause a terrible idle and load up tha cylinders before ya hammer it. It will stumble, spit, and fart before tha fuel load clears out and it gets goin'. Tha bleed circuits aren't workin' at all. All tha excess fuel is goin' straight to tha cylinders causin' tha "flood" situation......Might make ya "think" its only runnin' on 4.......Are we just talikin' about 1 or 2 petals on each block or are they all gapped open like a P-coat sleeve? Now if it doesn't clear up and run half way decent after a few minutes at throttle then ya may very will be runnin' on 4 or 5 but not because of tha reeds not seatin' all tha way (unless tha P-coat deal is present).......

Both petals on both the bottom reeds are open I order a whole new set just wanting to see if that was why it was running like it was
