1989 OMC King Cobra outdrive pwr trim and tilt cylinder on the left (port) side leaked hydrolic fluid. How involved is the fix ? Is there a seal ? Packing ? Can I tackle it or do I need my mechanic ? Should I not put her in the h20 until it fixed ? Will I compromise something if I do ? Thanks in advance.

Howdy,

Welcome to iboats!

If it's leaking (aside from knowingly leaking petroleum products into the water), You also run the risk of sucking some water into the system.

I would fix it before putting it in the water. You may be able to fix either cyl by putting a Cyl Seal kit in one or both cyls if they're leaking.... like the following..... http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/omc/O-0985060.html OR,

It may just need to have leaking fittings tightened........Be aware that if there's corrosion in the fittings, tightening them may break the fittings or strip the cyl connections rendering them unusable.

. I am not sure if you can buy new cyls anymore.

Good Luck,

Rick
