1989 rinker captiva 206 mercruiser 5.0 alpha drive. Can't figure out the misfire

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. I recently bought my very first boat. Had 5 jetskis in the past but never a boat. So, the boat was steal or I thought so in the beginning. Long story short the boat has sat for 4 years before I purchased it. I took it out on the water first time and the upper outdrive went out. Had that replaced by a shop ($1250) ouch! I got it back into the water after the repairs and it was making a popping noise near the engine area. I called the shop back and they told me to replace the plugs, fuel filter, wires, distributor cap, rotor, and do some seafoam treatment on the carb. So, I followed what they suggested. But the boat still misfires and makes a popping noise from the carb/engine. So my question is do you think its the o

Without more info I assume, you bought the boat and did no maintenance, just added some gas and took it for a ride.

Being 4 years old did you drain the fuel tank?
When it starts popping, what rpm are you at?

Take the fuel filter and pour the contents into a clear jar, let it sit for a bit and see if it separates
