I bought a blown up 1989 50 hp Johnson motor, then got a 1983 powerhead, The ignition parts left on the 1983 were limited to the coils and the stator, I thought at first that I would be able to use the ignition parts on the 1983 with the newer CDI box but I see now that they are not the same parts and the 1989 CDI box will not work with the older stator and cables.
My question is can I move everything from the 1989 motor to the 1983 powerhead and bolt it all up? That would be everything under the flywheel including the flywheel and all the electrical components, the entire wiring harness, CDI box, coils regulator, redplug harness, starter and solenoid. I think I would also move the throttle linkage because there are some differences in the timing linkage.
