Hi, to start out I am new to working on jet skis, but have had alot of experience with snowmobile engines and other smaller engines. I found a waverunner on a local classifides website and the guy said that it runs perfect, but last time he rode it he heard a noise in the jet area that sounded like a rock. My first thought is a bearing in the drive shaft, but correct me if I am wrong. Anyways, the guy only wants $550 bucks for it with a pretty decent yacht club trailer, I am more then likely going to buy it, but was just wondering if there are some things to look for when inspecting these for purchase. If it is a bearing going out in the back, I just want to fix it before the summer, so please give me some instruction on doing this or maybe a source for a diagram. Thanks, your help is greatly appreciated.

Re: 1989 Yamaha 500

prices vary by area. i have picked up newer PWCs with trailers in south florida for under $1k without any work required.
one was a a 96 Polaris SL780 for $650 and the other was a 95 WaveRaider 760 for $850.

$550 for a pwc that old that requires some work and will only top out at 30 mph under perfect conditions is not worth it. u might benefit from parting it out and keeping/selling the trailer.

Well I live in SD, and there isn't much for under the 1000-1500 price range. I am always up for a good project and am not much into speed, just looking for something nice and slow to cruise around the lake with. We live on a lake and have a fast boat, so just something to have a little extra fun without to much cost is what I am after.
