This is my first post and I'm sure the answer is on this site somewhere but I have'nt been able to find it.Working on a 1990 150 TLESB Tracker XP and the motor runs great. I just rebuilt the carbs, new plugs gaped to 40 thsds., new fuel lines and line going from solenoid to carbs. Here's the problem the motor will run 5200 rpms and has no hesitation during acceleration.Compression is 88 psi on each cylinder when cold 100 psi when hot.The motor will idle on the muffs all day long and I have it set to idle at 950-1000 rpms on the muffs. When I took it to the lake it started fine but would not idle without having to give it a little throttle. And when you put it in gear it would not idle and would die without giving it throttle.Where are the slow speed idle adjustments on these carbs I thought they were fixed jets. Also when at the lake I turned the idle screw up to make it idle higher and it worked somewhat but idle so high on the muffs (1800 rpm's) I turned it back down.I know there's something to adjust but would like to know where to start. All spark plugs throwing a good spark good gas timer base looks to move properly.Any help would be great.50to1 mix.no vro.The throttle cable are also decent full range of movement in shift and throttle cable.

Thanks
Chris

Re: 1990 150 Rude Tracker XP won't idle

When at idle, the carb butterflies are closed. Fuel is supplied by idle circuit passages in the carb that provide fuel for idle only. (The jets are fixed and are not adjustable.) All 6 of these passages need to be open for proper idle. It is possible that some of the six idle circuits passages are either plugged or restricted. The best way to insure these circuits flow properly is to completely disassemble the carbs (including the jets) and spray carb cleaner through all the passages in the carb body. The cleaner spray flows through each passage on each carb throat should be the same. If you turned up the idle screw, possible that the butterflys opened slightly, causing the other jets to begin to add more fuel and thus the higher rpm.

I had similar problems with my 86 150 gt and a link and sync solved my idle issues.

Thanks, I am going to check it out tonight and I'll let yall know.I thought the jets were supposed to be closed but haven't had the time since the carb rebuild to check it out.

Thanks

did you remove the jets and clean them. also idle speed is higher on muffs, set it high, then fine tune idle speed in the water and in gear.

Thanks, everyone for the ideas.I found the problem I think. The water pump crapped out yesterday after I checked the link and sync.I started her up and steam was coming from the tell tale.So there's some seal issues in my lower unit and a new water pump is going in this weekend.I think it was idling high because of the pump not putting any load on the motor.Oh well better to find it in the driveway than out on the water.Plus now I have an excuse to check all the seals and exhaust chambers for excessive carbon.

Thanks
Chris
