I just got a used 1990 16' Spectrum Escort (made by Tracker) and am removing the original Humminbird in dash depth finder and replacing with a tach. the terminals on gauge are:
Gnd- got it
IGN-
SEND-
LT
Can someone tell me exactly where to make the connections for IGN and SEND? The motor is a 35hp Force. There seems to be a connection on the engine terminal block labeled 'tach', but the only wire attached to it is the harness that goes from the motor to the console. Where in the engine do I make the connection? Also, would anyone have a schematic of the ignition switch and gauges? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If you have any other gauges on this boat, connect the IGN wire to the "I" terminal on any other gauge (provided that gauge actually works). Otherwise, connect the IGN wire to the "I" terminal on the ignition switch. Look at the back of the switch -- terminals are labeled. LT stands for "light" (the internal light for the gauge.) Again, connect that terminal to the "L" terminal on any other gauger that actually works. If no other gauges, it connects to the NAV side of the NAV/ANC switch. The TACH wire going from the engine to the console is the wire you connect to the TACH (SEND) terminal on the tachometer. No schematic necessary.

Thanks! I understand the panel wiring now. My only other question is where the tach wire goes to the terminal block in the engione. That's where it stops. It goes from the dash harness to the engine terminal block but goes nowhere to the actual engine???

Check the terminal block on the engine more closely. If there is a tach wire in the harness going to the helm, there must be another wire under that one or perhaps jumpered to another terminal on that terminal block. The tach signal comes from the stator (not starter) but before the rectifier.

OK, so I hooked it up as described and think I may have burnt the tach. I connected it to one of the 2 stator wires and it worked fine for about 5 minutes then does nothing. It reads about 1500 rpm when no power to it, then turn ignition to "on" and it zeros...doesn't even do that now- stays at 1500 key on or off. I had the selector on the back of the tach set to 6, as it stated for my engine. Too much voltage from the stator maybe? HELP!!!
