Hey all need a little help, I have a76 aqua sport that i have a 1990 225 evinrude motor on it. the boat was setting for 2 months and i tired to fire it up for this up coming snook season. well i have no spark. I had a buddy of mine swear it was the power box(cdi) I went ahead and order a new 1 and installed it today. still no spark i went thru the troubleshooting on the problem, disconnet the yellow/black key switch wires, no spark, disconnet the yellow wires from the startor still no spark. I have an ohms meter(cheap 1) but reading ohms. i went out tonight and bought 2 new batteries thinking i wasnt getting enough cranking to achieve spark. still no spark, while my son was doing the key he was playing with my toggle and we see that none of my lights, bilge pumps etc are not working. my tilt work and i have power to the starter. I checked all fuses and seemed fine.is there something in my fuse box that would not allow this to spark? little confused got power to motor but after that is disappears.. help :(

Have you checked the stator for ohmns? And not shorting to ground? Check the timer base ohmns too

Re: 1990 225 evinrude

thanks for getting back to me on this, i was able to go out today and get a better ohms meter then i have, so i was able to get 1k ohms off the stator. the volts i dont have a tester that would measure 150v. i put my test light on it while my son tired to start it, it lite. so i went to the timer base plug, got the 3 row pins with 1 lower(4) pins, white wire in middle of row 3, i get no ohms reading for touching white to anyother of the pins but with just OL, soo it looks like a very new adventure for me. what do i need to do? thanks again

If you're determined to fix this yourself you really really really need the factory service manual. You should be able to find one on ebay for around $40 or so. I just sold the exact one that you need a month or so ago for $38. (You've already thrown away much more than the cost of the manual when you bought a power pack you didn't need).

Also, while you're at it, do an online search for how to build a DVA adapter for your meter. You can do a bare bones one for about $5 worth of parts. That's what you'll need for troubleshooting the ignition.
