Just picked up a 90 sea nymp with a Johnson 25 hp outboard any tips or things to look out for ?? Motor runs just never owned a 2 stroke outboard before so just getting some heads up
You need a impact wrench for those tight screws.
You can checkout the engine diagrams for your motor below. Getting a service manual
will definately help with changing the water pump. Good luck.
Jasper should have said impact screwdriver. The impeller is mounted on the top of the lower unit with the drive shaft going through it. You will need to remove the lower unit. Has this motor been used in salt water?
The reason for the salt water question was to caution you on bolt removal. With it being a fresh water beast you should have no problem. However if the bolts appear to be reluctant you may need to use heat. These small bolts have a habit of shearing. When you refit the pump and the lower unit paint the bolts, including the shanks, with OMC gasket sealer. Life will be easier later.
