1990 4.3 Mercruiser Hp rating.

I have a 1990 4.3 Merc. Top cover says 205HP 4.3 LX. I looked in my manual and service manual and all of the 205 HP 4.3's are the same serial # just like the 4.3 Merc LX models. Weird.
I know I have a 4bb Rochester but most people say I cant have the 205 Hp because I have 1990 model or something. So how to tell for sure.
All I know is my 21FT cuddy can out run most smaller 4.3 boats and some v8 in same size and weight.

175hp 2 bbl
190hp 4 bbl
205HP 4 BBL lx

It appears they made 3 power ratings of 4.3 from 1987-1991

Must be fast...

Hmm, that clears that up. There has always been some confusion about HP on my 90' 4.3 with a 2bbl. I guess now I know I'm at 175hp should someone ask. Really, I don't care, she goes fast enough for me.

now i'm jealous. our 1997 5.7litre ,i think, is listed at 210 hp.

Hmm, that clears that up. There has always been some confusion about HP on my 90' 4.3 with a 2bbl. I guess now I know I'm at 175hp should someone ask. Really, I don't care, she goes fast enough for me.

Insurance company asked me and it is confusing....

somewhere around 1992 or 93 they started rating the 2 BBL 4.3 as "155HP at the propshaft"
then maybe 1995 or so, they switched back to flywheel ratings... weird

Ye that 4.3 has some power for a v6. I was amazed a little when I first got it. It powers a 21 cuddy and still jumps on plane super quick. I am glad everything was explained to me. For the longest time people told me I had the 190 hp rating and I kept telling them it said 205 on cover.

Right?? Mine too.. Hell mine is only 17ft not counting the swim platform.. When i re prop to a 21 this next spring I should catch mid 50s.. Thats fast enough for no brakes

I am jealous.. 350 oh yeah my next tub will have it...
