Hey everyone.
I have a 1992 40 horse force.
My motor runs great but today I went to start my motor just to move the boat. It wouldn't start and now i dont have spark.
From looking at the motor I found exposed wires on my rectifier and it looks to be burnt up visually.
What damage could this cause to the rest of motor?
Could this burn up my stator or other components?
If so can someone help me with the steps to eliminate possible problems?
Thank you for your help

outboardignitiondotcom has test procedures for some of the test you can do without any special equipment.
Just need an analog test meter.

If it looks burned? then it possibly is.??

Okay, thank you!
Ill check it out.
Im going to start with a new regulator.
After some more investigation I found some other wires that a mouse had eaten. I'm going to check all my wires before I do anything else.

Same issue.

Mine will turnover with jumper wire across solenoid, when i hit key switch nothing. BUT, when jumper wire across solenoid, it will turnover but wont start. It almost seems like there is a kill switch or something preventing it from starting--is there a way to bypass that or anything?

any ideas?

dmfresh1, You should start your own post.
Always include year, model, serial#

Could be: the key switch is bad? the solenoids bad? blown fuse?

No start: key switch, stator, trigger, kill switch.

More info??
