50hp 2-cylinder runs like a top.
Only problem i have is cold starts.
the motor starts quickly, but then wants to die unless i prime it, sometimes 5 or 6 times.

then as soon as it warms up, it runs great.
In the summer this is not an issue, only when cold outside.

Is this normal ?

Re: 1990 50hp evinrude

My 93 40hp will stall after cold start. I found that the fast idle adjustment on my control box was not letting the fast idle lever move enough to raise the idle enough to prevent stalling.

After adjusting the control box to allow full motion of the fast idle lever, the motor no longer stalled. And it warms up faster on high idle than low idle.

C-raven, A cold engine needs extra fuel to get going.Sounds normal to me.If you didn't prime at least once,it probably would not start.Period.

DHP

Normal process is to depress key switch for a couple seconds, and then turn the key to start.
should i hold the primer/choke in for a longer period of time before i turn key ??

Maybe this will increase the prime for better starts ??

C-raven....try going to ON-depress key and go to start. This is the correct way. Son as the engine cranks, release the key.

Following an earlier thread and I see that OBJ made another typo. I told you all he was human. Chaos ensues! Seriously, OBJ thanks for the time you put in this forum.
