Hi all, I recently purchased a 60 evinrude knowing that the engine had been ran hot. The engine is not seized up, and looks to be in great condition. The guy just got the motor out of the shop in the spring, the carbs were rebuilt, and a new impellor was installed in the water pump. The guy thinks that the pump failed under way, and he and his father limped back to shore, shutting the motor off and on to get back to the beach. I inspected the motor to the best of my ability, and the rubber hose leading to the telltale was actually melted to the head. I did a compression test, and got 90 and less on all 3 cylinders. Knowing that the engine will at least be honed and reringed, depending on the cylinder measurements, what else do I need to be aware of with an engine that is known to be ran hot? I noticed on the pistons that he engine has .020 pistons in it, so Im sure that it has been into before, but The guy stated that the motor was running when he took it off the boat, but he repowered the boat instead of repairing it. I have repaired some outboads in the past and I'm pretty sure I can tackle this rebuild if need be, I just want to make sure I don't over look anything.
