Just got a Bowrider Tempest with a 1990 60 HP. I'm new to boating.
Questions:
1. I dont see a "Autoblend" (I read of one in the manual), do i need to get one, or continue to mix the fuel manually. If so, what is the reccommened gasolene (I guess the highest grade) and what is the reccommened oil (I guess from Canadian Tire??)
2. If needed, where would I get a autoblend to buy and whats the appromimate cost?
3. Should I drain the gear housing before taking to water? If so where would I get the lube to replace?
I'm guessing Canadian Tire? The Manual reccommend Quick Silver brand. Where would I get this?
4. Any other precautionary tuneups / maintenance reccommended?

Thanks in advance.

Lift the cover off your engine. If you see a large white plastic tank on the side of the engine it is oil injected (autoblend) but the model number ELPT indicates it is NOT so equipped. If it was, the number would be ELPTO. It is cost prohibitive to install oil injection on the engine unless you had a donor engine from which to get parts. There are also electrical issues (alarms) to deal with. Any TWO-STORKE outboard oil with the "TCW3" type identifier on the container can be used in your engine. Do not be confused by the terms premium, sythetic blend, full synthetic. If the container has the "TCW3" marking on it you can use it. Any marina, auto store, farm store, or department store that sells fishing and boating supplies will have that oil. The same applies for lower unit lub. It comes in various size containers but the squeezable tubes are probably most widely available at the same stores. It's simply labeled "Lower Unit Lub". Fuel mixture is a pint of TCW3 in 6 gallons of fuel which is a 50:1 ratio. You do not have to use premium fuel. Regular grade is just fine.

Thanks Silvertip!
I got two tanks here, one is full and (quite possibly) already mixed.
Should I drain the tank and do my own mix?
I read somewhere that gas in the tank for awhile will form a varnish and gum that can damage the engine.

The boat is parked in my enclosed garage.
Is there a danger there with the tanks? Shoul I take wany other precaution than just being carfull around the tank (precautions like disconnecting the batteries??)

If you are unsure how old the fuel is you are strongly advised to dispose of it. Use it in small amounts in your car or lawn mowers. Why take a chance that someone either didn't add oil, used the wrong oil, or didn't mix the correct ratio. There is no danger leaving the tanks in the boat, in the garage. Just keep children out of boat.
