I have a 1990 60hp evinrude. When i got it about a week ago it had been sitting for two years. I tried to start it and it wouldn't. I have since rebuilt the carbs, replaced fuel filter, changed the spark plugs, and replaced the fuel line. When i put it back together it ran great but it won't idle. I bought a manual and resynced everything when i finished it ran idled fine on the muffs but when i took it to the lake it wouldn't do anything. Can anyone help me?

Hi sandron....

Listen partner...all the sync and link stuff needs to be done with the engine in water. See...what happens is that the water creates a backpressure against the cylinders. Something you can't get on muffs. So everything you do with the engine on muffs is nill when you put it in the water. The best way is to put the rig in the water, take all neccessary tools, timing light and such, fishing poles, cooler loaded with your favorite libation, and tune the engine in. You can't beat the open water for tuning. Give it a try.

Thanks outboardjim for the advice. I tried that this morning and messed with for two hours and still couldn't get it to idle.
