Hello everyone. I am having a stubborn problem with my Prestolite tilt and trim. When I tilt it all the way up the outboard slowly decends down. There is no leaks on it at all. I have replaced the two seals in the tilt cylinder, and i have checked the valve body but all seems to be good. I am losing pressure somewhere just can find it. When I checked the valve body, all the springs checked out, the only thing that bothers me is the use of little BB's instead of a poppet valve. I recently replaced the original valve body with a used one same year. It worked fine for about two weeks, now back to decending. The original valve body used the poppet vales instead of the BB's. Should I go back and use the poppet vales instead? I was thinking maybe the BB's are not seating well and I am losing pressure there? I'm at my wits end. Any help would be appreciated.

What fluid are you using? Also if there is any dirt in the system it could be holding the checkvalves open enough for it to leak down.

SantaCruz look at the trim cylinder are all 5 bolts tight and straight? Mine was and now is leaking through the trim cylinder.

I am using 30 w/t oil like the manual said. There are no leaks anywhere, and oil level is full. Yesturday I put the original valve body back on and it goes down maybe a quarter of the way then stops. Better than the new (used) one I got, I when down slowly until it hit the main trim cylinder. All of the system is bleeded also. Ive got a hunch that the valve body at the bottom of the resevior system is going bad, due to the fact the all of the other components are good. What do you guys think? Also I found a rebuild valve body online for $180.00, do you think I should go with that?

Santa Cruz1 go to the parts store and get two plugs for wheel cylinders. plug off the tilt cylinder and I bet the motor goes up and down just fine. if it does fix the trim cylinder.
