1990 bayliner capri

I ripped up the carpet and started to remove the fiberglass coating on floor, (very thin coating) going to use epoxy and fiber glass 1708 biaxial mat is says it is cloth with matting backing 17oz strand with 8oz backing. Is this ok for wood floor?

Lets back up a little first.

​Are you just replacing the glass over the wood, or ripping up all the wood too, and have you dug deeper to ensure there aren't more surprises hiding below?

​The type of resin isn't going to matter much, but it will dictate the glass you use

The wood has a looks like it has chopped mat with resin, I can take a gasket scraper and chip it out thus exposing the wood floor so far no i do not see rotten wood, I wanted to get the floor down to the wood then use the epoxy with the fiberglass cloth, this cloth has fiberglass matting on the back of it, I see it online and I want to buy some. Many years ago when I was a kid we used to use fiberglass and resin " epoxy" all the time but it has been a while since I tackled a job this big!

You don't want 1708, you want 1700, you don't want the chopped glass on the back side if you use epoxy.

​I'd check around a bit more, especially if you can get to the foam under the plywood, because this may be the first Bayliner ever on this forum that has no rotten wood in it, they were known for rotting away quickly.

Ok thanks for the information on the 1700, I will scrap the old resin off and see if any rot exist, I understand the quality of Bayliner Boats entry level etc, but I don't want to start cutting into the floor if I do not see rot, so far I have only removed the carpet from the back seat to the transom of the boat, It really is a shame why Bayliner was so cheap on the quality as the boat fits what I want, outboard power with a small cuddy cabin, I could not find really any boats in my price range with all this has to offer!

You should REALLY take heed to what ondarvr is saying. A 27 year old Bayliner has less than a 1% chance of NOT having Major Structural issues with the Stringers and Transom. You Can't/Won't know for certain unless you do some thorough investigating. Putting a boat on the water that has rotten stringers and transom is dangerous and ill advised. Take the time to do it right or don't do it at all.

Right now there is some wood exposed, is there something paint wood protector that I can put on the stop the water from getting in temporary till I can work on it. I keep it covered but water still will get in!
