There's no way I'd be out in LI Sound with a transom that low. I'd make a splashguard and make sure any hatches (is there one right behind the engine) are totally well sealed.

Yes there is one right behind engine that seals up tight

Diverting from the original topic a bit but looking at the pics I posted what if you built a drop down or removable splashwell? It could be there when you need it in some heavy seas, store away when not. Put on a hinge and it could double as a bait cutting or sandwich making station?

Seen more than one kicker bracket bend or break in rough conditions.

If you feel the need for redundancy purchase a membership with a towing service or go with twin 115hp.

Wouldn’t worry to much about the transom unless you are purposely backing in open water.

The boat moving forward causes an area of low pressure at the transom, in effect an invisible shield while in motion. The only way water is coming in over the transom is going backwards or bringing the boat to an abrupt stop. Power down slowly when coming off plane and you will have no problems

If you feel the need, put a drop down in like mine.
FWIW..mine is hinged to accommodate the motor in the raise position..other wise a toe chopper

Towing is nice but if the need for keeping moving is needed not time to wait. Yes bracket cou.d fail but id rather have secondary power. Twins would be my preference as well especially since we will be spending g his money for him...

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again…unless you can plane the boat with a “kicker” leave it at home. It’s more of a hindrance than an asset when battling ocean currents
