So I found some saturated foam under the floor of my Crestliner. I thought about leaving it untill winter but there is some corrosion starting so I want to get all the old, wet foam pulled out. The previous owner replaced part of the floor and carpet about two years ago. He used plain steel staples for the carpet and drywall screws to put the floor down . So I'm going to slowly replace it all as well as the seats. Pour in foam is a pain....

One of these are in each corner near the transom. I think I will remove them so I can have more storage space. I'll just shove extra under the floor just in case.

Re: 1990 Crestliner Phantom

So I havn't been working on the Crestliner much. I still take it out every now and then to run it. I've been looking at the bottom lately, it seems pretty wavy. My assumption here is that it is warpage from the hull being welded together. All the stringers are welded to the hull. I have about 1/3 of the foam out so far. Looking for a reasonable 150hp evinrude to strap on the back. Then I can find a Starcraft SS or Holiday to put the 110 on .

You can see the waviness pretty good here

Well I'm still pulling out foam . I know for sure I won't be putting this stuff back in. I will use either pool noodles or foam board. I emailed Crestliner about the waviness of the hull and am waiting on a response from them. I also put it on a different trailer so I can blast and paint the one its on. I also had an interesting day yesterday, I was helping my future BIL tear apart an old delapitated camper and we kept hearing this "humm". Turns out there was a bee hive in there with about 1000 bees. It was located in the back wall and found it when we pulled it out. It even had a honeycomb in there. I just had to try it and have to say it was pretty good!

Your hull construction is very similar to that of my Crestliner Spotfish. I re-did my foam a while back and went with the pink foam boards instead of pour in. I wouldn't recommend removing the two areas in the rear of the boat. That foam is there to support the additional weight of the motor. You ideally should replace any removed foam with an equal volume of replacement foam. Also, the bottom of my hull looks somewhat similar to yours. It doesn't have the waves but, like yours, many of the weld lines are clearly visible.

oops, do you think it's warpage from it being welded or do you think it might be something else? I'm just curious if anyone has seen anything like this before. I just don't want to put alot of time in this thing if there is an issue.

Hey Drew! I have my heavy duty ice cream scooper in hand. You want me to swing by to help with the foam removal?:)

Almost every welded Crestliner I see that is more than a couple of years old and that has been used at all seems to develop those waves,....

Nice project boat,...I agree on the foam in the back, It is there to help provide level floatation in the event that you need it,..

Myself, I would stick with the pour in foam as I think it provides some structural support,..

Hey that would be great! Ice cream scoop.....that's actually not a bad idea :D

I guess that's reassuring, hopeully i'll hear back rom Crestliner on this. I'm 99% sure I'm not putting pour in foam back in. That's the reason I'm doing all this work. With the way the stringers are setup, when the pour in foam is there the water has nowhere to go but to soak into the foam. Im pretty sure it doesn't provide any structural support, The way the stringers are welded in I don't think it does.

What's the easiest way to pull the OB off? It doesn't have any lifting eyes. I'm thinking just wrap a strap around it and use the engine hoist to lift it off. I think it weighs about 300#. Still waiting to hear back from Crestliner on the warpage. I don't want to go much further until I know for sure this isn't going to be an issue in the future.

Re: 1990 Crestliner Phantom

I have had this boat on Craigslist for a couple months now. I never had any intrest in it that's why I wanted to fix up the interior and paint it. Well, I had someone come along and make a decent offer so it's going to a new home tomorrow. I will be down to one boat then :(, but I have my eye on a couple of nice projects :D.
