1990 Evin 115 hp strange noise

i bought this moter 3 years ago from a dealer and i used it a lot without major problems.<br />now i hear a strange zooming noise when i go over 1600 rpm.<br />i checked the compression and the lowest of the four was close to 100 psi.<br />the other 3 were 110.<br />i did this test with a cold engine and wot.<br />do you think i have broken rings ore a damaged piston?<br />I dont think i lost power at least not yet.<br />somebody told me that it could be broken bearings?<br />wat should i do before i start to look for a mechanic?<br />bud there is a zooming noise.<br />Thanks.

Your compression is fine, Dutch.<br /><br />First suspect when noises like that come along is a bearing nearing failure, but carefully inspect all moving parts. . .ignition/flywheel system including "stator" which does move and might be interfering with some other moving part.<br /><br />Good luck.

thanks for your help,<br /><br />ok, i was afraid i would get that answer.<br />i cant find enything loose bud i cant check the stator because i have to pull the flywheel.<br />in worse case scenario the barings are about to go, what should be done?<br />what if i keep on running the engine will it cause more damage?

remove plugs/ get a screwdriver/ start at #1 piston/ #1 piston is top right, top left is 2, bottom right is 3, bottom left is 4(top to bottom)/... put screwdriver in plug hole/ press driver against top of piston/ turn flywheel clockwise until piston starts to go back..towards crankshaft/ put pressure against driver/ if any piston has more give than the others do, it may have bad berrings at the crank or the piston pin may have worn the holes that accept it/...other than that, check your motor cover handles for vibration...goodluck

thanks CVX35,<br /><br />I did try that thing with the screwdriver and i tell you all pistons gave nothing exept i felt a litle klik at #1 right top.<br />i felth the flywheel bud it didn't give.<br />so it sounds like some bearing failure from piston nr 1. And to make it sound better thats the cyllinder that has lower compression than the other 3.<br />Could i still run this engine for a season or 2, or is it time to rebuild ?<br />I payed $2100 for it. is a rebuild gonna cost me the same??<br />to bad i love this motor.<br />is this caused of impropper lubrication?<br />VRO??????<br />Next time i will use the best oil money can buy.
