1990 evinrude 120 fule problem

hello i have a 1990 120 hp outboard. the problem is that when i have to refill the 6 gallon gas tank (i only have one ) the outboard will run fine for about a mile then stalls out if i stop shut it off pump the primer ball it will run again for an other mile then do the same thing the primer ball does get soft and feels like there is lots of air in it but it only does this after i refill the tank i dont run i right out of gas or any thing anyone know what might be going on ?

You have the vent on the tank open? Maybe the fuel pickup tube is leaking air. YOu reammy need another 6 gal tank (at least). Why not buy one, try it and see if you still have the issue.

hello sorry for the delay in posting back yes the vent is open i have tryed 3 different tanks and does the same thing i have to 18g tanks im going to put in but i have to mod my boat to get them to fit

Will it keep running if you pump the primer bulb and not quit ??

it will run good for about 1 mile (after i fill the tank back up it runs good on the first tank of gas it will run about 18miles ) then when i stop to fill the tank back up every mile or so i have to stop because it starts to cut out when iam running i tryed to pump the ball but it does not help you can feel and hear that the ball is full of air and only a little gas also it only seems to do this if i am running at full rpm 5800 rpm anything over 5000 rpm and it will do this

sounds like air is being sucked in from somewhere.d u have leaking fuel anywhere. that could be a busted hose or fuel pump could be gatting weak

i have checked every thing but the fuel pump i have new gas lines/ends for the gas line and tank new fuel filter have made sure all my clamps and what not are tight this one really has me stumped i did not do anything with the fuel pump because it only does this after i fill up thanks for all the help i will have to check over every thing again and try a new gas tank could every one look over my other thread and let me know what they think thanks all for your help

Try another tank and fuel line assy and see what happens.
