1990 Evinrude 40hp Tune up

I let the motor set about 8 months with bad gas. Cleaned the carbs, installed new fuel filter and blow out the fuel lines. The motor crankes fine and runs for a few seconds then tries to shut down, you can keep it running by chocking it off and on. Could it be the fuel pump? Any ideas? Thanks

Yes. Or it could be the carbs were not cleaned thoroughly enough. Idle jets still clogged.

did you remove the jets and clean them? if not need to redo. see the TOP SECRET FILE.
