Hi all, I have a 1990 Evinrude model: E150STLES. Towards the end of this years season it started smoking bad at idle and when I shut it off and turn it back on when warm. Bluish smoke like it's burning rich. I know 2 strokes are suppose to smoke but this is to much for this engine. It never smoked that badly before. I live in MD and it is off season for me so I rebuilt the carburetors. But that did not solve the problem. I thought it could be the vro, so I bought a new one and installed it. But that did not solve the problem. It does start easier and idles a lot better but still smokes a lot. I replaced the fuel lines last year from the fuel tanks to the engine. So when I replaced the vro I also replaced the fuel lines and fuel filter under the cowl.. Compressions are great.

What else could I check next. Is there a idle air adjustment for this engine. If so where? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

What kind of clamps are on your hoses? is the primer lever facing the right way? Could the primer he partially open or failing.

Are you using the oil injection on that motor? If so, an air leak in the gasoline line can cause them to add extra oil to the fuel mix.

Alternatively, if the motor is pre-mix, a defective fuel pump diaphram will allow raw fuel into the crankcase, causing more smoke/rich mixture.
