Hello everybody! Been following this site for info for the last few months and finally decided to join. Back in October, my brother handed down to me a 1990 Bayliner Capri 1800 Bowrider with the 90 hp Force by US Marine. Boat had a few issues, but was running (mostly), had a soft spot on the floor, needed cleaned up, wouldnt start without spraying fuel mix in the intake, and lastly, the tilt/trim is leaking down. Ive since replaced/glassed the floors, new carpet to be installed this weekend, cleaned her up nice, did a complete link and sync following Franks procedure, replaced both trim relays. Now that its running right and the floors are ready to go, its time to complete the project. The problem Im having is with the tilt/trim system is leaking down. Fast actually. I see no fluid leaking anywhere. It goes up and down as normal at good speed. But when the motor is up, whether fully or partially, it leaks down within a matter of 4 or 5 minutes... I was going to just replace the trim pump with an aftermarket to see if that fixes it, but wanted to come to yall for advice first as I am new to boating in general and have never messed with a trim system. I have plenty of tools and am mechanically inclined and can work on just about anything though. Where do I start? I dont even know how to manually raise/lower if necessary, or even empty and repla e the fluid. Any help would be greatly appreciated

There is NO pressure relief on the Force T@T.
If you need to lift/lower the front hydraulic line is what you loosen to let it down or up.

The 3rd post in this forum covers the T@T tests and repairs.
It shows a modified tool for disassembly.
Not hard to make.
The post can show you how to fix it.

IF???? it's EVER been in salt water???? it might be real hard getting apart??

I sent you a PM

Ok so, I got the new valve body in the mail today. Went out to the boat to install, I then realized that i actually WAS leaking fluid out of the lift (tilt?) Cylinder up near the top. Anybody have a link to a rebuild kit for this? Is there any special tools needed? And how hard is it to remove the cylinder itself? Any suggestions? I havent even opened the valve body/pump. Im gonna try to replace the o rings first in the cylinder then return the pump if all is well afterwards

You'll probably need 3/4/6 and maybe #7 too.
They don't show a seal or maybe an o-ring in the #3
The #3 is NLA in most places.
e-bay has it FA654055
202057800031 #
$40

The seal or wiper goes bad, the salt water gets in and eats the soft metals and then the part needs to be replaced.
I just did this to my Mercury.

The job ain't gonna be easy.

The corrosion is gonna fight you all the way.
You'll need a spanner wrench.
Don't use one that "almost" fits.

To my knowledge, the boat has never seen saltwater. The original owner didnt use it often and only on the lake, then my brother had it and also never used it in saltwater, and now me. So hopefully thats the case and it wont be as bad. And i think i dodged a bullet on the spanner wrench. I have one for my ginder that did "almost fit" haha, i gave it a tap with a 3lb sledge to close the gap and it fits the holes square and nicely
