 Had carburetors overhauled because started hard. That's better, but since then after running awhile & stopping to fish, motor bogs on acceleration. New stator, new VRO, new recirculating valves. Compression 100# on 5 cylinders & 1 at 98#. Smokes alot. Gas fumes. Seems to be running rich but will not load on trailer. Bogs. Can anybody help?

If the spark check out ok, check the powerhead temps at idle once it is warmed up. If a stat sticks open, one side will run cold and that can cause poor combustion/smoking.

Thermostat OK. Approximately 140 degrees when idling. Mechanic replace plastic float bowls with aluminum bowls when overhauled. Could this be the problem?

Re: 1990 Gt150

Smokes a lot and smells of gas, could be a lot of things.

Gas leak for one, use flashlight, pump bulb firm and inspect all lines under the hood for weeping.

Could be a stuck float valve overfilling carbs, does any fuel come out the carbs when bulb is pumped up.?

Heat soak caused by metal bowls, let it idle to cool the engine down before shutting it off and pump the bulb firm again to fill the bowls with cooler fuel.

I would also look for ignition problems, ie; a spark gap test.

Checked fuel line-no leaks. No stuck float valves. Did spark gap test.
Thanks for ideas. Anymore?

A timing light will show if its dropping spark after its warmed up and don't forget to test for heat soak.
