Hello All,

Looking for a starting point and advice on a warm engine restart issue I'm experencing on my 1990 Johnson 150 V6. Engine starts and runs fine, problem happens after shutting the engine down and go to restart. I have to use the electric choke and use the shift disengage button and run the throttle up to get her to fire up and run.

Recently replaced plugs and wires as well as cleaning and rebuilding the carbs. Issue hasn't changed with that work. Engine has good and equal compression.

Thanks for the advice and sharing your knowledge.

....so next we move on to the fuel delivery system. Start with the pick-up tube in the tank, look for clogs. Next, it's a very good idea to use 3/8 fuel hose, if you don't already. Also, make sure water separater is passing the fuel. Lastly, you can check the fuel pump by squeezing the fuel bulb while running and if the engine revs higher with every squeeze, then maybe the pump is bad and it's rebuild time. It is highly recommended to use Seafoam in every 3rd tankful or so to help keep the system clean. Also, make sure the VRO is in good working order. Plugs may also be a factor.

Thank you for the reply, I'll dig into the fuel system this weekend starting at the tank and working backwards.

Always possible that the anti-siphon valve is not closing properly when the engine is shut off. If so, the fuel could start to drain back into the tank and could cause restart problems. You'd want to confirm that your fuel tank is equipped with one, first. If it is not, the fuel could drain back into the tank easier than with one.
