I have a 1990 Johnson GT-150 (J150STLESB)which isn't getting a spark at any of the plugs. My Seloc Manuel for 1973-91 says all V-6s covered have two power packs. Mine only has one. I have a Manuel for 92-96 and all the 150s in it have an optical sensor. So I followed the 185 - 225 hp V-6 test and the best I can tell, it is the power pack. Am I on the right tract, or can anyone point me to a repair manuel which will actually cover my motor?

Welcome!!

An OE manual will be the only one that is specific to your motor. In the meantime, lets try something.

Disconnect the large red connector to the main wiring harness. Check spark again (youll have to jump the starter solenoid). Just check for spark -- dont try to start it. If it does start youll have no way to shut it off other than flooding it with the primer. Which aint easy....

Let us know!

OK, now I have spark on cylenders 1&5? (top and bottom on right bank). That is with or without the red connector conected. It may have been too light earlier for me to see the spark.

How are you checking spark?

I have all the spark plugs out and grounded with jumper wire. I changed the plugs between 1 and 3 to make sure the plug was not bad. Still only fire on 1 and 5.

One power pack, 35 amp charging system. You should check the charge coil first. 200 volts or higher with peak reading meter.

Hello Wayne-
hope youve got your motor running now? I have the same type and year and am searching for a correct wiring scheme! Do you have one? All those Seloc and Clymer manuals that I have do not cover this specific type of engine.....
Does somebody else know the difference between the 150GT and a regular 150hp? What makes this motor a GT!?
I want to test mine and have already set it up in a tank. Problem is that I dont have the matching controls and cannot find anything on the web that explains what cable is hooked up on what pin in that red main connector where you normally hook up the controls to! Ive searched everything in here but obviously nobody has ever had that problem- strange......
In the schematics I have you can see cables going from this connector to the powerpack, but nowhere is explained what they do!!!!! Isnt this stupid? What should I do with such a wiring diagramm? You cant do a repair job with these, the only thing you can do is checking wether there is a cable or not..... this is nuts!!
