What is the tan wire for that comes off of the CDI and meets up with the temperature gage wire before heading to the diode? What condition causes the CDI to ground it?

There is no temp gauge that uses the tan wire. That is the temp sensor if it overheats the motor goes into slow mode.

I referred to it as the 'temp gage' but it's actually the sensor that grounds when it overheats.

The tan/brown wire with the black sleeve coming from the right is from the CDI. It meets up with the temp sensor wire as it goes into the harness. (You can see the other end of the temp sensor wire enter the head just above the yellow hose.)

Both of the temp gage wire and CDI wire are soldered to the diode inside the harness. The other end of the diode is connected to the oil level sensor and the harness that goes to the controls.

The problem is that there's a short that is causing the overheat alarm to go off. So something in the tan/brown wire is shorting and causing it. I've tested the temp sensor and it checks out. So i'm not sure if its somewhere in the wire harness or if the CDI's tan/brwn wire is doing the shorting. So i'm trying to find out what condition could cause the CDI to short the brown wire. Then I can work backwards from there to check the wires that could cause the condition.

Ok it is the temp sender wire that if it overheats goes into slow mode. Get the factory manual.
